Starfighter, Chapter 2, page 30
Is Hamlet_Machine awesome? Yes, yes she is.
Last page, we left off with “Dennis” staring in at Alpha Sequence 01 and a mysterious fighter, going through fight sequences like a hungry man goes through delicious pie.
Our mysterious fighter removes his helmet and we see that it’s Cain!
Cain turns around and cusses as his admirer, in the process, calling him Deimos. Now, we’re clear on the identities of both fighters. For all Deimo’s badass behaviour earlier (He scares the survivor of the Tiberius into silence with a passing look. Keyword: passing. When another fighter hits on him, he pulls a blade on the perpetrator and threatens a very sensitive area. He also does all this without ever saying a word), he turns into a mouse the moment he comes into contact with Cain.
Cain ends the program and pulls out a smoke. (I do not approve but it adds to his bad boy appeal)
They’re so familiar with each other that Cain knows something is up when Deimos comes looking for him. He calls Deimos “Myshonok”, meaning mouse and asks him what’s up.
It’s not Bering, and it’s not Cook so it has to be about Abel.
(Cain refers to Abel as his “new girlfriend”, far kinder than the first words he ever said to aforementioned ‘girlfriend’)
Myshonok looks down, sweat beading on his forehead. He’s nervous, perhaps terrified. And he nods.
Who is this Deimos? Why is he one of Cain’s lackeys? Why is Cain such a bad boy? Can he get any sexier? Is Abel going to get into trouble for asking around? Or worse, will Cain take it out on the Survivor of the Tiberius?
Questions to be answered in upcoming pages.
D.Grayman 202
In the climatic and heart-wrenching battle between the Noahs and the Black Order, the Black Order suffered devastating losses.
Among them, all the third generations exorcists, countless scientists and Finders. Most notable however, was the death of Second exorcist Kanda Yuu and his lover Alma Karma
Allen Walker sacrificed too much of himself, holding the 14th’s memory at bay and allowing the star-crossed lovers to die in peace instead of being hounded by Central.
With the Millennium Earl’s trump card Alma Karma gone, the Noahs chose to retreat.
Allen Walker was imprisoned, and life went on.
Now, start Chapter 202
The Earl seems to have some stranger brotherly or perhaps more than brotherly admiration for the 14th. The relationship between these two is complicated and too convoluted to understand at times. In the beginning, they were supposed to be brothers. However, the 14th betrayed his family and the Earl. In a surprising twist, we learned that the 14th wanted to be the Earl, yet the Earl wanted to be the next 14th. Ah, jealousy.
After the Earl (such a dashing middle aged man) cries himself to sleep (literally), the Bookman and Lavi appear. Lavi seems to be in great discomfort.
It becomes apparent that Lavi and Chao Ji have been injured by a Noah. Parasites of this particular Noah have been implanted into both young men and if Bookman senior refuses to comply, they will be executed promptly. Bookman senior probably doesn’t care much for Chao Ji but he does value his apprentice and doesn’t want to have to train another if Lavi dies.
In exchange for both their lives however, Bookman senior has to divulge all information on the 14th.
Cut to headquarters.
Allen is in a cell, refusing all food and only drinking water. His ‘cursed’ left arm has been bandaged and sealed up. Timcampy is restrained behind him. (Giant Timcampy is adorable)
Inspector Howard Link is invited to present his report on Allen Walker. Our favourite blonde uptight inspector seems to have a grudging respect for Allen and his steadfast refusal to say anything.
Many have been injured and more still calling for the execution of Allen Walker, the holder of the 14th’s Memory (memories?). Of course, his friends don’t agree with this, Lenalee in particular is devastated to hear that Lavi has been captured and Chao Ji is in dire condition. Kanda’s suicide with Alma Karma still weighs heavy on her heart. She reminisces about the times Kanda would pick a fight with Allen and Lavi would have to separate them. With Kanda dead, Allen imprisoned and Lavi captured, she feels alone.
(Allistair Crowley looks fetching)
Howard Link visits Allen in his cell, bringing him food made by a Jerry, a trusted chef so that Allen will know that it’s not poisoned or spiked with anything.
The blonde inspector shared with Allen his past with the other exorcists, telling the Allen about why he’s so close with them despite their different ranks.
They seem to be coming to an understanding when Allen suddenly shifts. The 14th seems to be taking over! He slumps almost immediately and Link gets to his feet in a hurry.
An unknown man steps out from the shadows, saying he’s here to help. Link, the ever observant inspector, notices the unconscious (perhaps dead) guards outside and turns.
The chapter ends with the unknown raising a hand towards Allen.
Who is the man and what grudge does he hold against dear sweet Allen? Were the Earl and the 14th more than ‘brothers’? Is Allen going to be okay?
More to come.
